Some rainwater systems are designed to blend into the surroundings, while others are designed to make a statement. This custom rainwater tank for Alterman Electrical in San Antonio is a great example of a project that delivers a bold visual presence without sacrificing functionality.
At the center of the Alterman campus is a CorGal 1506 flat-roof rainwater harvesting tank positioned above a dry riverbed on a custom concrete foundation. The foundation concrete was stamped with a custom CorGal panel, which provides a cohesive and unique look at the base of the tank.
One of the most distinctive features of this project is the custom roof extension, which adds more than 8 feet of additional galvanized steel above the original tank structure. That added height introduced significant structural demands, necessitating support beams extending from the upper enclosure into the concrete foundation below.
This project also required a custom funnel system to work with the extended enclosure. An aqueduct-style conveyance system channels rainwater and AC condensate from a nearby rooftop into the tank, helping maximize water capture.
Projects like this highlight the range of design and engineering considerations that go into custom water systems. Working closely with Rialto Architecture Firm, whose vision helped shape the project’s distinctive appearance and seamless integration into the Alterman campus, we developed a system that balances architectural impact with long-term performance. Today, we’re highlighting a recent installation of a CorGal 405.5 rainwater tank at a residential property. This tank holds over 1,300 gallons of water and is primarily used for irrigation purposes. From the start of this project, we knew our tanks diameter would be the biggest limiting factor in creating a complete water system for this residence. Metal tanks rarely come in sizes compact enough for such restrictive areas, but we also knew they would provide the best long‑term performance.
Fortunately, our partners at Water Storage Tanks, Inc. worked closely with us to engineer a unique and custom tank that met the strict diameter requirements while still providing the storage volume the homeowner needed. The final result was a sleek, space‑efficient tank standing over 16 feet tall! This was a unique installation that both our team and the customer were thrilled to see come together.

Our Solution: Customer Engineered CorGal Steel Tank
As a trusted partner in sustainable water systems, SWS collaborated closely with Water Storage Tanks, Inc. to design and deliver a CorGal 1509 Corrugated Rainwater Harvesting Tank customized with a flat roof to meet height restrictions. Powered by a duplex pump system, this tank collects rooftop rainwater and channels it into the ECUP facility, where it is reused within the airport’s heating and cooling processes.

Despite the tight installation footprint, our crew successfully stood the tank and pumps in under two weeks.

For today’s project spotlight, we’re showing off a recent build at Crossroads Church in Austin, TX. This project consisted of two steel water storage tanks designed to support their fire protection needs. The system features a CorGal 2405-WT-CHR Fire Protection Tank alongside a CorGal 0903-WT-CHR tank as an additional water supply. The 2405 fire protection tank has a nominal capacity of 60,000 gallons and was engineered with two dedicated anti-vortex outlets, one supplying a remote hydrant and the other allowing fire trucks to draft water directly from the tank.

This CorGal model 1204 WT CHR tank and system supplies 12,000 gallons of water to be used for human consumption. The Onera project consists of a corrugated steel tank, Duplex TCEQ Pump System with Goulds 10HM06 203V, 3-Phase Power 5.5 HP on Variable Speed Drive. The system includes a Stenner Chlorinator System and two (2) Amtrol WX-455C 370 gallon pressure tanks.
The Texas Commission on Environment Quality (TCEQ) defines these systems as water supplies to be used for human consumption that serve at least 15 service connections or at least 25 individuals for at least 60 days out of the year.
Fire tanks are essential for development in locations that do not have reliable water sources. While smaller than most, this 0903 WT CHR CorGal fire tank serves a small office in Travis County. All fire tanks are engineered and designed the NFPA 22 and are built to the specifications required by the local authority having jurisdiction.
Rainwater harvesting and breweries go hand in hand in Austin, Texas. The CorGal 0802-WT-CHR will allow for 2,500 gallons of water storage and adds to the beautiful mural in the back.

This 24,000 gallon rainwater harvesting Cistern was installed to provide potable water for a residence in Fredricksburg, TX. It incorporates filtration inside the tank and utilizes a 2HP submersible pump for a clean finished appearance. The 12′ windmill provides aeration for the stored water in the tank keeping it from getting stagnant while inside the residence are additional carbon and UV filters to provide clean, pure drinking water for the family and their domestic needs.
